McDonald’s and Wendy’s set up operations in Japan, but We have own fast food in Japan. It is “bowl”.
“Yoshinoya”, which set up operations even in US and Europe, has the largest operation in Japan. “Beef bowl” is a well-known product. You can but it within $2 or €2, and the volume is good enough for your stomach. Since I ate it when I was a kid, it is extremely delicious for me. However now the mainstream bowl of Yoshinoya is “pork bowl”, because an issue of U.S. beef imports. About its interior, everyone eats at the counter, and your bowl will be delivered in 1 minute after you order. The feature of Yoshinoya is its speed, price, and taste. I think it deserves to call “Japanese fast food”.
“Matsuya” has the similar items to Yoshinoya. This shop uses Australian beef, thus they can keep providing beef bowls. A difference from Yoshinoya is that they serve miso soup with beef bowls. The price is almost same as Yoshinoya. Additionally Matsuya serves numerous items such as curry and ginger pork.
I used to go to “Gyudon-Taro” previously. This shop offers the lowest beef bowl, and Natto bowl is a famous item other than beef bowl. “Natto” means fermented soybeans, so most of foreigners dislike its smell, but it’s a Japanese favorite. Of course some people don’t like, but people around me love it. It is a healthy diet, and Japanese eat from ancient days.
Foreigners may not know this kind of Japanese fast food, but if you wanna know Japanese food culture, I want you to eat it once as a public food.
